The Stuart era in England was a time of major change and conflict. James I tried to unite England and Scotland under one rule, but tensions grew between the monarchy and Parliament. These disputes led to the English Civil War during Charles I’s reign, with Royalists fighting Parliamentarians. The war ended with Charles I’s execution and a brief period without a king, led by Oliver Cromwell. The monarchy returned with Charles II, but the struggles over power left a lasting mark, shaping England’s move toward a constitutional monarchy.
